Anita Donndorff
vocalist
Recorded in two phases, across two continents, core tracking took place in 2022 at Estudios ION in Buenos Aires with arrangements by bassist Paul Sikivie, known for his work with Cécile McLorin Salvant and Aaron Diehl. The ensemble includes Dante Picca (piano), Eloy Michelini (drums), Sergio Wagner (trumpet), Guido Baucia (tenor sax), Juan Canosa (trombone), Ramiro Penovi (guitar), Carolina Cohen (congas), and Felipe Arce on “The Great City.” Vocalist Sol Liebeskin is featured on “Thirsty Soul.”
In 2024, Donndorff completed the album with final vocal sessions in Buenos Aires and two intimate duets—“Charade” and “Ana Luiza”—with legendary guitarist Peter Bernstein, recorded in New York at Flux Studios.
Thirsty Soul marks the culmination of Donndorff’s early career—a portrait of an artist fluent in multiple traditions, drawing from jazz, bolero, tango, and swing to shape a distinctive and modern sound. With lush arrangements and a dynamic ensemble, she offers a vivid and emotional entry into a voice poised to define the next chapter of contemporary vocal jazz.

About

Anita Donndorff
Anita graduated from Escuela de Música contemporánea (EMC) - Berklee Global Partners (BGP), in Buenos Aires in 2018, and went on to establish herself as one of the most influential artists in her native Buenos Aires.
She moved to New York City in 2023 and has been actively participating in the local scene playing with many award winning musicians such as Peter Bernstein, Ed Cherry, Héctor Martignon, Andrés Boiarsky, Hernan Jacinto and Juan Cruz de Urquiza, both as a band leader showcasing her own music and arrangements, as well as in collaboration with other musicians projects. She has been able to maintain a strong presence at both cities playing in iconic venues such as Bebop Club, Centro Cultural San Martín and Thelonious Club in Buenos Aires, and Hero (Rockefeller Center), Arthur’s, The Pierre, The Wallace and Thalia Theater in New York.
Influenced by the vocal jazz tradition and rooted in the Latin rhythm, Anita shines in any setting she performs. Although her career has remained close to the tradition of swing, she has been part of some of the most innovative projects in the genre and has been the band leader of a group featuring the percussionist Carolina Cohen to recreate the sound of Latin jazz from the late 1940's through the 1980's.
In 2020 she released her first album, You Invade All My Dreams, with pianist Dante Picca. The album includes some classics from the Great American Songbook, along with some original compositions and arrangements by Anita.
The three singles released in 2021 are new versions of Latin American Boleros, acknowledging her Latin roots and showing her versatility. The three songs (Tus Ojos, Lo Que Me Queda Por Vivir and Herida de Sombras), were recorded with great musicians from the Buenos Aires local scene, such as Latin Grammy award-winning pianist Hernán Jacinto.
She's planning to release her next album, Thirsty Soul, by the end of the year. With more of her compositions along with jazz standards, the album features some of the finest musicians from Argentina, arrangements and direction by New York award-winning bassist Paul Sikivie and two collaborations with Peter Bernstein.

"For an artist who has already proven her depth and range, Thirsty Soul feels like a bridge between cultures, genres and chapters. This is an album that doesn't just cross borders; it dissolves them"
- The Concert Witness
Press
"When operating in such an intimate setting, her considerable interpretive skills are magnified. But that's not to say they're buried with the band. In any atmosphere, Donndorff seems to find a way to shine. An appealing statement indicative of a wonderful presence and bright future, Thirsty Soul truly satisfies."
- Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz
"Argentinian vocalist Anita Donndorff has an appealing sweetness in her classically trained voice, an easygoing delivery, and a fluid phrasing that freshens familiar tunes."
- Mel Minter, Musically speaking
"I was taken by Thirsty Soul from the second it went in my CD player.
Argentinian singer Anita Donndorff is clearly willing to take some chances and have fun with some well-worn tunes... Thirsty Soul is a remarkable way for a singer to introduce herself into the world."
- Paul Abella, DCB Jazz.
